Together, WE Open Doors to Better Futures For Intercity Children
Summer camp and STEM-based outdoor education sessions open doors to better futures for youth from nearly 40 of Chicago's most economically disadvantaged neighborhoods at the Northwestern Settlement House In The Wood in Delavan, Wisconsin. Since 1936, our members and friends have supported the Northwestern Settlement mission to disrupt generational poverty by nurturing, educating and inspiring at-risk youth through social services, education and the arts.
Experience House In The Wood with summer campers on July 22 from 2 to 5 p.m.!
Please RSVP for a free afternoon of fun! Join Northwestern Settlement supporters and volunteers for activities from arts and crafts to archery, tour the camp by land or water and enjoy s'mores and lemonade with summer campers. Family and friends of all ages are welcome.

Join us or an inspiring night benefitting House In The Wood campers and programs!
The 2018 House In The Wood Gala will bring friends together for a night of fun, fantastic food, live music by The North 41 and and an epic benefit auction—all to open doors to better futures for intercity children at Northwestern Settlement's award-winning House In The Wood camp.
All gala proceeds directly benefit House In The Wood campers and programs because North Shore Board of Northwestern Settlement members proudly volunteer our professional services to produce the event.

Thanks to our supporters, the 2017 House In The Wood Gala raised over $510,000 to provide summer camp and STEM-based outdoor education sessions for boys and girls from nearly 50 intercity neighborhoods in 2018.
The North Shore Board: Our Story
Thanks to our friends and supporters, boys and girls escape the city streets to discover an inspiring environment to learn, grow and just be kids at House In The Wood. Northwestern Settlement's holistic camp program focuses on children's academic and social-emotional growth - strengthening campers' self-esteem and developing essential life, social and leadership skills.
In addition to organizing the only House In The Wood fundraiser, North Shore Board members volunteer throughout the year at the Northwestern Settlement in Chicago. Contact us to volunteer!
We open doors to better futures for intercity families and children
Each Spring, we organize St. Patrick’s Day BINGO with the Golden Agers senior club, host the Mother's Day Gift Room for Early Childhood Education and Rowe Elementary charter school scholars and visit House In The Wood for an outdoor education open house. Click here to learn about other opportunities to volunteer at Northwestern Settlement throughout the year.
We inspire House In The Wood summer campers on Sunday Fundays
In the summer, our families enjoy the House In The Wood summer camp open house and we plan Funday Sunday activities for campers. House In The Wood is also available for private retreat weekends between scheduled summer camp and outdoor ed sessions. Learn more!
Our families volunteer together to nurture our neighbors all year
All year, our families volunteer at the food pantry and collect clothing and household donations for families in transition. During the holidays, we serve Thanksgiving dinner to Settlement House neighbors, grant holiday wishes through the Adopt-a-Family program and make holiday meal baskets for food insecure families. See the Northwestern Settlement wish lists.
